... accidental Duelist Kingdom parallels here, I just realized. (lol)

The thread stayed firmly attached as Bakura was tossed, strengthened by the successful attack. There was still a bristling resentment, but it was infused with the need to prove that he wasn't weak. Unconsciously he leaned into the resonance more, as if replenishing the energy that it had taken to pull off the stronger attack. It was a different support from Vash and Leo... the warmth in this connection was like a fire, dangerous and unpredictable, but also far too familiar. Was this what the Ring had stolen from him? The strength he only seemed to have when he was fighting him?

Or was it just that it was only when dealing with the Ring that he could forget everything else because all that mattered was that fight?

'Just roll.' Two in rapid succession would tire him, but he was used to it, and there was an undeniable high he was feeling from the first attack. The background buzz of the Madness around him for once wasn't making him curl in on himself, but instead lash outwards. If he would have realized that the combination of that and the close resonation with his doppelganger was bringing him closer to acting like him, he would have violently rejected that connection, but as it was, all he was thinking was the focus on taking out those Kishin and getting out of that hole.
