It had been a little over a week since the sandstorm, and thus a little over a week since the last batch of newcomers. When the readings indicated that BREW was activating again so quickly, it was a bit of a scramble to get everything prepared. The last time it activated before then was early February, so this really was a small time frame. It had been some time since that happened.

But everyone dutifully prepared just in time for the first arrivals. It was also a relatively good day despite the past few rain showers. At least things were much calmer now.

That would be a mostly correct assumption. However, I don't believe Excalibur is a human as his pictures show.

[She gestures around the room to the pictures. Excalibur is a bizarre creature indeed.]

He decided to settle himself here. I don't know if Shinigami-sama knows yet. Follow me and we'll have your soul examined.

Oh, so those pictures are of... hmm... [Now that she had an association to make, she could see what Death the Kid meant when he said that some of the people would be meisters and the others would be weapons. Somehow, the idea of becoming a literal weapon instead of a figurative weapon made her feel a bit better.

So, before this girl-that-looks-like-a-boy began, she decided now would be a good time to make a few observations.] So, a person that becomes a weapon has quite the transformation to become a form in which he or she is useable. And... [guesswork here] ...a meister is a user of a weapon, correct?

[pishirogane]

Yes, that would be Excalibur. A Weapon of legend which begins in the 12th Century which he will continue going on about if you wake him up. If his personality wasn't so absurd, the war would probably be over. Still, to get him to cooperate is... difficult to say the least.

[A nod] That would be correct. Do you have any questions concerning either?

[Naoto stops before a machine, waking it up from sleep mode.] Stand on the marking please.

And they are to work tandem to combat the witches in fulfillment of a wish BREW made.

That nobody seems to remember.

I suppose there are quite a few questions that could be made here. Alas, I can't think of which ones I want to begin with. [Which was her subtle way of saying she didn't know what information was more important, hoping that this new person would be willing to fill that in.]

[Meanwhile, Aranea is more than conciliatory in taking this request. It doesn't seem that difficult.] Will this hurt?

Exactly. Most guests are preoccupied with obligations at home. Yes, BREW has brought us here as part of a desperate wish, but this is now of our concern because if they lose, we lose. Our timelines will lose us no matter the last state we were in if some form of order isn't restored or created.

[She taps] Very well, I'll cover the information in a moment.

[Good thing the two of them like to talk so much...] No, it won't. It's more or less an x-ray if you've had one before. Nothing intrusive and punctual.

[consider8]

I don't think I have. But it was quite the eventful few hours.

[Really, she hasn't had this much excitement since she saw the new heroes initiate their game.]

[pishirogane]

[Another nod and she hits a button. As Naoto said, nothing happens besides the machine whirring and soon, there's a ding. It all stops immediately as the results are prepared.]

You can step off the marking now.

[consider8]

[With nowhere else to go, Aranea approaches Naoto to see if she could make any sense out of the results.]

[pishirogane]

[As an x-ray, it does show some form of Aranea's structure, but it's mainly focused on the cerulean blue orb in the center of her chest.]

... You're a Weapon.

[consider8]

[She's happy to see the blue, but her head tilts.]

How can you tell?

[pishirogane]

It says so.

[She points at another screen that reads 'Weapon'] I've never seen a Meister or Weapon's soul personally for various reasons, but one could venture to come up with several theories as to what makes them different.

[consider8]

[Oh, so it did! Still... a machine that was able to see souls? That's pretty impressive tech! No wonder they were able to bring her back from the dead.]

What theories might those be?

[Everything about this place is interesting. The more she saw, the more she wanted to know.]

[pishirogane]

Well, it could boil down to personalities or roles within your world how your soul is ultimately shaped.

[She shrugs] It's something worth asking Stein-sensei.

[consider8]

Stein-sensei is a person that is in charge of souls?

[That was a small shame. The way this girl boy carried herself himself made it seem as though she he was quite the expert...]

[pishirogane]

No. He's a teacher at Shibusen, but he has a great understanding of souls. He's capable of perceiving souls on his own and is capable of making himself compatible with any Weapon.

[Not a native here after all.]

[consider8]

[Huh... was sensing emotions the same as perceiving souls? Aranea wonders if that was the case... and perhaps the jumble within BREW was because it might have has some trouble handling such a specific skill like that. Or maybe she was on the wrong track, who knows.]

That sounds like a unique skill for this place. It's no wonder he's an expert.

[Ah...]

I hope it is not inappropriate to ask, but are you a weapon or a miester, mister...

...[hmm]

I'm sorry, it would seem I may have forgotten your name.

[pishirogane]

[She nods. Don't think too hard into it, but it's always possible]

I'm a Weapon. Demon Gunblade to be exact.

[Ah]

Naoto Shirogane. Pleasure, Miss...?

Serket!

[she smiled] Aranea Serket.

[pishirogane]

Well then, a pleasure Serket-san.

[consider8]

[She looks back at the screen.]

So I'm a weapon. Will that mean I'll become a sword too?

[pishirogane]

No. Each Weapon is different. Blades, projectiles, pole arms... they don't have to make logical sense. I believe... someone here previously was a hand mirror.

[She knows exactly who that was. No, not talking about it.]

A mirror? [She's really surprised at that. Mirrors can be weapons? :o]

How would that work as a weapon? It'd break the first time it is used.

[pishirogane]

You would ask his Meister if he's still present. However, I believe this Weapon would be able to reflect attacks or something of the sort.

Oh... interesting!

[pishirogane]

To find out your own form, you'll have to practice transforming. I suggest attending morning training... oh, and if anyone suggests throwing yourself down the Shibusen Staircase, don't do it.
