It had been a little over a week since the sandstorm, and thus a little over a week since the last batch of newcomers. When the readings indicated that BREW was activating again so quickly, it was a bit of a scramble to get everything prepared. The last time it activated before then was early February, so this really was a small time frame. It had been some time since that happened.

But everyone dutifully prepared just in time for the first arrivals. It was also a relatively good day despite the past few rain showers. At least things were much calmer now.

It was only the politeness that got Akiha to stop. She looked over her shoulder at the man before sending a glare at the room's centerpiece.

"What is the point of even having this kind of required analysis in a room such as this?"

"Usually it's not like this. In fact, the leader of Death City will probably have a conniption fit when he sees it."

He hadn't seen Kid in his full symmetry-obsessed mode, but he'd heard plenty of rumors. He really didn't want to have that hanging over his head.

"However, it seems to be a special case since Excalibur's in charge of managing the volunteers." He glanced back at the sword, frowning. "Shibusen was a little short-handed this month."

[ritsu_kouyou]

"Excalibur?" Akiha gives the toilet a skeptical look. "The legendary sword of Arturian legend with the Knights of the Round table, Merlin and the Lady of the Lake? Tch."

She severely doubted that sword was the Excalibur.

"Unfortunately, the same."

He turned his gaze back to her. "If you'll give me just a moment, I can determine if you're a Weapon or a Meister using this device."

"I refuse to believe that is the same sword," Akiha muttered, but she stood up straight and turned toward the man for whatever this examination was going to be.

"You and me both," Six grumbled. A sword with such a noble history reduced to that in this world? He felt humiliated for King Arthur. "Just hold still, please."

He went to work, flipping the controls and watching the monitor's readouts until it finally came to its decision.

"According to this, you're a Meister. I'm assuming it was covered during the basic introduction...?"

Once she felt she could move without causing problems, Akiha went to look at whatever he was looking at. Of course, she couldn't understand what she was looking at, but the important part was the analysis.

"A Meister. Yes, we were given a basic understanding of what a Meister and a Weapon are. What wasn't explained is what criteria is used when one becomes one or the other. Do you know?"

"Not a clue. It seems to be different for a lot of people. I'm used to wielding traditional weapons back home, so I assumed that's why I came in as a Meister. A friend of mine seems like he'd be better off with a gun in his hands but he transforms into a gun instead."

[ritsu_kouyou]

"Hmph. I have hand-to-hand training and some martial arts, but I've never had to wield a weapon before."

Akiha crossed her arms. "Tch. I'm Tohno Akiha, by the way."

"That'll be useful in case you and your partner end up separated."

They really did need to have a martial arts class. At least he brought it up with Kid.

"I'm Six." He lowers the scanning device to look at her with a raised eyebrow. "Should I be referring to you as 'Miss Tohno' or 'Miss Akiha'?"

"Tohno. That is my family name. Akiha is my given name," she explained. "I'm Japanese, so the custom is to address acquaintances or business associates by their family name unless you've developed a more familiar relationship."

She looked at the others gathered in the room. "Though I suppose being this is the United States, that I will have to get used to people using my given name out of ignorance."

"I assumed that was the case." Said somewhat dryly. Six had been all around the world, after all, though not always for the best reasons. "However, some here don't mind being familiar enough to use their given name on a regular basis and have taken to using the American form of introduction with given name first. I didn't want to insult you by accident."

[ritsu_kouyou]

"I appreciate the consideration. I suspect that will be a rare thing here."

Akiha sighed. "Will you give me your honest opinion on this... place?"

"An honest opinion? It's twisted and strange and if you're used to your sun and moon not having faces, you're going to be adjusting for quite some time to it."

Six had yet to be completely at ease with the sun laughing high in the sky or the moon doing the same while drooling blood.

"Still, not the worst situation I've ever been in. For me, there's enough parallels with where I came from to adapt."

"...excuse me?"

What?

"The sun and moon... what?"

"Have faces. And they laugh. The moon even drools blood."

Might as well prepare her for it.

[ritsu_kouyou]

"..."

Faces. Laughing. Drooling blood. The sun and the moon?

"That is the most absurd thing I've ever heard."

"You'll see."

He sort of wished he'd had a warning before he'd set foot outside. He'd started the first time he'd seen both celestial bodies grinning down at him.

"Is there anything else, Miss Tohno?"

"No, that's all. Thank you; you've been very informative." It was odd to realize yet again that Akiha tended to get along better with those older than her than her own age group. Must be part of her training before her father died and the business she ran.

"Perhaps we'll speak again sometime."

Six nodded. "It's not a large city overall, so it's very likely. Have a good day."

With slight bow, Akiha finally took her leave of that horrid room. She would never go back there if she had any say in it.
