Location: SEES HQ, sort of under minor renovations.

Time: Dinner-time/Evening
Description: SEES has been without leadership for a while, so it's time to talk about that and other things. Over dinner.

The SEES HQ is a humble, unadorned office in the process of renovation. There is scaffolding on the outside (really a continuation of the arcade expansion happening next door) and buckets of paint on the floor inside, stored until needed.

The arrangement of desks in the middle and chairs along the outside give it an almost conference room feeling, except that each seat has a dinner setting of plate and utensils (and chopsticks), and the middle of the table is covered in Kanji's generous dinner spread.

"Hey, y'showed up."

He hadn't been paying too much attention to the murmuring as people had filed in, having stepped out of an adjacent room and moving to take a seat nearby. He was something of a back-row kind of guy himself, but he knew better than to plop down in a seat right next to most anybody. He lifted his forearm to his face, checking to see if that scent of incense was too strong on him.

Maybe he should have gone with a weaker mix back there...

Akiha glanced over, her nose wrinkling slightly at the scent that accompanied Kanji.

"I decided it was better to explore the opportunities for allies here than to be a 'lone wolf'. Even with a friend from my home here." Tucking her hair behind an ear, Akiha turned more toward him. "It seems BREW decided to bring both of us here."

Minato found that unfriendly look profoundly interesting. Maybe this was the female version of Shinjiro from a different dimension...

"The group as a whole focuses on all aspects. However, it is up to individual members to decide where their talents best lie and to contribute according to their skills and interests. Additionally, any member can suggest further areas of focus so long as they promote SEES' mission."

A long-winded explanation, but since he was already talking so much, there was no point in being terse or vague about it.

Turning it around. "What specifically were you thinking of focusing on?"

If she didn't have to hold hands and sing songs with the clueless when they arrive - as she was sure most of the newcomers in general didn't grasp the situation as quickly as she did - she could put up with the other less appealing aspects.

"I have little patience for idiots or the ignorant. I'm a very direct woman that prefers to act than sit around waiting for something to be handed to me." Which may seem to contradict her mannerisms as her rich upbringing was quite evident. "I have more of an interest in the investigation and protection aspects."

Oh, I wanted to introduce you to somebody. Are you familiar with Duo Maxwell-san?

Maybe he did overdo it, now that he thought about it. He lowered his arm again, deciding not to think any more about it.

"Lone wolves don't last too long here anyway." Well, some did, but none that he used to know. Soul resonance alone demanded partnership, and despite his own changes as a human being it was still a little out of his comfort zone. As it stood, he only resonated pretty well with three people. Having friends from back home here really did help; maybe for her, too.

Kanji sat back and stifled a yawn. Long night last night. "Yer friend a Weapon?"

"She is. We've agreed to see how we work together in this aspect."

They were confident it would work given they got each other, which few ever did. Of course, even then they didn't get along as well as most people did with their friends.

"Sit up straighter, Tatsumi. You'll be able to focus better." Yes, she caught that yawn.

"That's where my personal focus is also, so I hope you don't mind working together with me." After all, when he started SEES, it was singularly focused on the protection part of the equation. Everything else came to be under different leadership: valuable, but not what he was good at. However, that also meant that the investigation and protection aspects were new to the formalized SEES.

In contrast to her hard expression, he smiles warmly at her. "Since we're all volunteers, you can choose not to involve yourself with the other aspects. It's better if we specialize, after all."

"It is better to be excellent at a few things than to be mediocre at everything."

Akiha wasn't sure what to make of Minato just yet, and she didn't respond to the smile, but she wasn't using her colder glares. "I see no reason to object to your leadership, Arisato-san." There was an unspoken 'yet' there, but that's just how she was.

"My name is Tohno Akiha. And even volunteers need structure or nothing gets done."

Hm, or that. Do you have a good connection with any of them from the agency?

[pishirogane]

No. I've seen him over the network, but I've never addressed him.

It was the best idea, really. For someone who had been living off ramen cups recently, this was amazing.

"Ah-- Right. Where'd you get yours then?"

A quick wipe of his hands down his pant legs 'cleans' his hands before he reaches out to take the band, putting it up against his arm.

"You reckon... they might have 'em in orange?"

Really? That's kinda cool.

"Damn, you're not screwin' around."

How long did it take for him to jump into the fray and try resonating with people, much less search for a weapon? Maybe about a week or two, if he could recall.

With the command, Kanji immediately sat straighter despite his protests. "I am focusing! I just busted my ass today. I made all this stuff, y'know!"

[ritsu_kouyou]

"It is better to act than to wait for something to be done for you." And Akiha wanted to go home.

She was pleased that Kanji reacted quickly so she didn't have to repeat herself. Though the crude language could use some work...

"Are you referring to the refreshments?" She cast them a glance. Mildly impressive. "I wouldn't expect you to do such a thing."

Akiha, you are preaching to the choir on Kanji's language problem. So long as nobody shows up with the ability Soul Soap In The Mouth, though, the boy was golden.

"Yeah, I get that a lot. They got a phrase, yeah? Somethin' about books n' covers..." Man, he could recall it just fine if he'd had a full night's sleep, but as it was, he was zonked. Maybe he should have waited to celebrate.

"Don't judge a book by its cover." Akiha leaned against the table and looked Kanji over.

"Though it does make one wonder why you choose to look like an uneducated delinquent if you aren't one." Her lip curled for a moment. "Unless you are one and I'm mistaken."

"My name is Arisato Minato. My speciality isn't structure, but I'm good at getting things done. It's why I've chosen to rely on everyone here. Together, we will augment our strengths and cover for our weaknesses."

Then he lifts a shoulder in a carefree manner. "I hope that SEES proves sufficient to your needs and helps to bring out your best, Tohno-san."

"It's from my world... they're all red back home, so I hadn't thought of different colours..." He supposes it is possible. They're probably only red because Mitsuru preferred red. "Wouldn't they be hard to see on your clothes if that was the case, though..?"

Kanji was reaching for something from the dinner spread when Akiha recited the phrase. Yeah, that was the one. Jeez, he needed to hit the sack early tonight if he was going to keep running on not even half his mental cylinders.

"I ain't uneducated!" He snapped defensively, frowning. Jeez, this girl likes to make jabs whenever the hell she likes.

"Besides... s'a long story, and I think Arisato-san's gonna start up pretty soon, here."

I'll show you during your next break at work. [He looks around...] It's too cramped in here to do it without breaking something...

The point is, Chika-chan, that individuals without partners can still contribute a lot. We just have to change our focus from partnerships to teams.

Naoto-san and Kuzunoha-san are from the Agency. While they are not the same, different versions of those two founded the Agency long ago...
