Characters: Anyone going on the Excalibur Quest!
Location: Excalibur's Cave

Description: A bunch of guests set out to find the legendary sword, not knowing what's in store.



[ The terrain is rocky and uneven and the trek is no easy task. Even when the goal's in sight, it's still far away because according to the book -- just up this cliff is Excalibur's cave. Looks like some teamwork might be needed to get up there. Not everyone can have a cool, floaty skateboard like Death the Kid. ]



(OOC: This log will be divided into two parts. The exploration, which is this log, and the actual encounter with Excalibur. I'll be making some subthreads for chambers to explore, but feel free to make your own threads and mingle! If you can dream it and it's annoying enough, Excalibur probably has it in his cave.)

[[Very awkwardly (and carefully) slips on the rope before checking where she's going and attempting to grab those same spots. Left arm doooesn't quite have the reach, but he's not going to let that stop him]]

Bet you never thought it would come in handy in a place like this, huh? [[smiles]]

Not really. But it came in handy back home when I traveled with some friends. [One of those saving-the-world type things where ruins and temples had to be searched.

Seeing the difference with his arm, she adjusts her reach to match his so she can find those hand-holds for him.]

You're right, though. We never had to climb a cliff. There were a lot of stairs, however! [Which would be why Shibusen's great staircase doesn't faze her at all.]

[[Something he'd be so jealous of if he knew of.

There's a grateful smile at her adjusting, and at her lack of mentioning it.]]

If it were just stairs, I don't think anyone in Death City would have any trouble with it. [[jokes lightly]] But I guess then it wouldn't be an epic quest, eh?

[ Figures that this quest would turn out to be something infinitely more troublesome than her initial forethoughts. But, well, it was her long-awaited quest. Whether it would bare fruit of not was inconsequential, right? She plops down beside a rock, regaining her breath and looking to her side for her bottle of water.... that she conveniently can't find. ]

[ She replies in a somewhat exhausted tone, her eyes not entirely focusing in on the source of the words. ] You only thought that now?

[guilds]

[ Cue her turning to look-- ]

DONE!

[ WHAT...


WHAT... ]

What are you?

[Maybe not. She was there, and it still seemed like a fairy-tale to her.

She returns his smile with a small one of her own. She sees no need to make any references to what she's doing at all.]

Did I forget to mention the circular set of stairs that seemed to go on forever? [She's laughing, doubting they'd be a challenge to anyone here.] The quest would be not to get dizzy.

Aaaaa, that had to be exhausting! What was at the top? Something worth the trip, I hope!

[ninjainviolet]

Yeah.... In a couple of cases... My summons... [She grows quiet a moment as she feels their loss again. Looking up, she sees they're close to the top.]

We're almost there. [Yeah, diversions are nice...especially if they keep you from remembering certain things.]

[[He was going to ask what she meant, but when she goes quiet, he gets the idea that he'd better not]]

Aaa, that's good! Hopefully there won't be another to climb after this one!

Re: Fairy Pond

[Erza's looking around with some degree of awe. She's never seen an actual fairy before, and like everything else, she takes the meaning behind her guild's name very seriously.] ...This place has fairies?

[She narrows her eyes and gives him a wry look.]

Bite your tongue.... [She chuckles, but she'll explain about her summons to him later--after they get to the top. A goal soon reached as she touches a patch of grass there.]

[shiromadoushi]

[[gives a sheepish laugh before very carefully hauling himself up on to the ledge and flopping down with a relieved, happy sigh]] Made it! Thank you so much!

[She pulls the rope steadily as he climbs, her grip firm--just in case. Thankfully, it's not necessary, and she smiles at him.]

Hold on a sec. [Removes the harness and gets a bottle of water from one of the food packs.]

Here you go.

My name's Sheena Fujibayashi, by the way.

[shiromadoushi]

Aaaa-- thank you! [[very grateful as he undoes the cap and takes a deep drink.]] Bakura Ryou, nice to meet you! [[smiles with a small nod of his head]] You've been a life saver!

[ninjainviolet]

You're welcome. And it's nice to meet you, too. [She begins to gather the rope together, trying to hide the blush from his compliment. She shakes her head slightly, however.]

Nah. You did the work. I just showed you where to go--like a map.

[shiromadoushi]

Doesn't make it any less a big help! [[smiles warmly as he very carefully rolls his shoulder to stretch out the tension that climbing put on his scar.]]

[ninjainviolet]

[She sighs. She has no argument for that.] All right. You win. [She chuckles again.

Sees his motion and lifts her hands.]

May I? [One thing training taught her: a light massage can be good for sore muscles.]

[shiromadoushi]

Eh? Aaa.... [[looking suddenly so uncertain. Would that sort of thing be all right for that scar...? Well, it had healed over, so it wasn't as if it were going to start bleeding again... maybe...

He finally nods]] It's a little damaged, from something from back home... so....

[dissenter]

[le glance. he's still kind of grumpy over being conned out of quality books, but this fellow hat enthusiast explorer raises a good point.]

I admit, the thought hadn't occurred to me until you mentioned it. Silly, in retrospect, considering all other weapons of note in this world are like the ones we're asked to partner with.

But this... [he motions irritably at one of the books, as if hoping it'll be rightly ashamed of itself.] I can't imagine what sort of person this Excalibur could be.

[As Anise looked at the sword, she was wondering if there were any traps around but...a part of her was tempted to go after it...]

So, this is it.. [She mumbled to herself but...what could she do now?]

[She nods.]

Okay. I'll be careful. [She holds her hands together first to build up some heat before applying them gently to his shoulder.]

If it hurts, let me know, okay?

[[nods, still looking just a touch awkward and uncomfortable. He's getting better at this, however. Between the repeated times having to get it wrapped and Megumi's examinations and everything else...

It was just the awkwardness of having someone that close... he still wasn't at all used to it. Not that he minded it! (especially when the girls he had met in Death City were nothing at all like those horrible fanclub types...) It was just... strange.

As if anything else about this trip was going to be anything but!]]

[he's in the middle of flipping through a book -- hundreds of pages thick -- that appears to be a sears catalog at first glance. but closer inspection reveals that instead of machines and clothes and things sane people would buy, this is a catalog for buying merchandise that's all themed around a funny-looking little white creature. qilby's horror grows with each turned page.]

Narcissistic is sure one word for it. But this is not fun, this is-- this is-- [at a momentarily loss for words, he splutters a bit before finally managing to spit out--] Irreverence!

[man, he sure is mad for no good reason. irritably, he mutters:] I do hope the weapon itself is everything its legend says it is, at least.
