[Closed] Keep you in the dark

Characters: L, Light, & Misa
Location: Death by Pastry
Rating: P-probably PG...13?
Time: Feb 17th, afternoon
Description: Misa's managed to drag Light out for a date, what could possibly go wrong? Oh wait, there's that guy that stalks Light.

Things hadn't been going exactly how Misa had thought they would (or should) since she'd arrived in Death City. There had been a number of things to adjust to: first, the time differences that made people arrive from different points. While there was still a lot of work to be done, Misa was used to Kira being more or less on top, having defeated L so many years ago. Here, L was alive and Light was struggling to gain any sort of advantage.

The other thing was having no access to the Death Notes at all, which as Light had pointed out, meant there was no Kira. Misa hadn't said as much, but the loss of the Death Notes didn't make Light any less Kira in her eyes. He still had the same ideals and brilliance, he just didn't have the tools anymore. Her shinigami eyes were gone as well, something she'd apologized for losing.

The war and Weapon/Meister system was strange, stranger yet because while there was no shortage of supernatural things in their world, seeing people turn into weapons was still startling. Misa didn't really know what to think of the war--it still seemed very much like the premise of a movie, what with Witches and all. Regardless, it was something she could adapt to.

The living arrangement, on the other hand, wasn't something so unfamiliar. While something far back in her memory, Misa recalled the days when the three of them had spent a lot of time together, when they'd actually worked together to hunt down Kira. She still had her single apartment, but there was no way she was going to stay without Light while he lived with L, and L had agreed to--no, encouraged them all to live together. He was being oddly supportive of her relationship with Light, something she couldn't help but feel suspicious about.

But any day that Misa managed to get Light away and some time with him to herself was a good day. He'd agreed to take her out on a date, something that didn't happen that often. All the strangeness of timelines and dead people being back and witches was far from her mind as they sat in Death by Pastry that day. Reaching her arms across the table to hold his hands, Misa went on brightly in the conversation, not really bothered if he wasn't listening.

"It's just that, there's not a lot here I'm interested in doing! I guess waitressing is okay, but it just seems kind of boring. And there's no way I'd join up at a hostess club! You'd be too jealous for that, wouldn't you, Light?"

Light hated going on these dates. Misa just talked so much. It wouldn't have been nearly as bad if she chatted about things that were even interesting, but everything seemed to somehow or another relate to her obsession with him and their happy future -- a future he was trapped into simply because fate seemed to hate him and deliver her a Death Note. He rested his chin on his palm, hardly touching apple pastry he bought in favor of sipping his tea and casting a glance out the window. It was only when she reached out to steal his hands away that his attention was forced back to her (slight annoyance showing).

With the conversation turning to topics of her employment, Light did have some general ideas about where he wanted her to work. So he welcomed this topic, waiting for her to pause for air so he could get a word in, "Actually, I have a place in mind. A man named Aion opened up a pub just recently, and I believe he's looking for help. You should apply there..." his hands reached over to squeeze hers gently. "I realize it's not work you're used to -- but perhaps he has need for an entertainer rather than a waitress. I'm sure you can sell your talents. I have faith in you. And besides..."

Light removed his hands from hers so he could break off a piece of the flaky pastry crust and bring it to his mouth. After chewing it and washing it down with his tea, he tacked on at the end: "I believe he's someone to watch out for..."
