Description: Roy told Sarah to meet him on the rooftop for a lunch he's bringing. Like a good soldier, they are both good at following orders.


[Roy had told her to be on the rooftop of the Watch for noon, and she arrived to gargoyle herself at a corner of the building precisely at the required time. She crouched on the ledge of the building, her arms settled across her knees as she stared off across the city and waited for whatever meal was about to be provided.

They hadn't spoken much, not with all that had happened to him. He needed his peace, and she was willing to give it to him. Until he was ready, he could do as he pleased until he had recovered from his losses... and his gains.

Reaching up, she pushed a strand of red hair that had flown across her face and pushed it behind her ear. She had her own matters to deal with anyway, and her duties were as busy as ever. She never knew who she would bump into while easing through the shadows anymore. She turned her gaze to glance towards Shibusen's looming building and narrowed her eyes at it but said and did nothing more.]

[And Roy's arriving right on schedule: 12 PM, on the dot. He's got two telling plastic bags.

Approaching Kerrigan now, walking right over to sit with just a little space between them. Now he's laying out the food.]

I bring good tidings.

[Light, jovial, as he's setting Chinese takeout down for the both of them.]

[She sensed his arrival and only turned away from her glaring at various aspects of the city when it's clear that he really did bring something to eat. She simply twisted around and remained crouched and regarding his tidings.

She felt a burning ulcer coming on, but it was more than she had eaten in awhile. Sometimes the worse it was, the better she felt.]

So it would seem. To what do I owe the occasion?

Beyond the fact that I've missed you? Watch business.

[Now he's breaking out the drinks. Look, Sarah, it isn't booze! How are you with bottled tea, because he's handing one over.]

I need eyes in the sky for the BREW viewing. Someone off the record, but monitoring things from the outside.

[She raised an eyebrow at him before snorting softly.]

I knew it had to be something like that.

[She took the offered beverage and stared at it, finding that it brought up odd churning in her stomach. She decided to give it a go anyway because really, how bad could it be compared to greasy Chinese take-out?]

Do I need to bring a scope and more than one clip?

That would be advisable. I'm hoping you won't need it, but better safe than sorry, yeah?

[Mm dumplings. Oh, here: rice.]

Depends on who or what I'm aiming for aside from people who are looking to steal BREW.

[To be fair, she didn't much care about BREW. It would probably just bring people in no matter where it was located. Nothing like misery for more company.]

Why such a security detail? It's indestructible.

Kid's request. He's not worried about someone trying to destroy it: he's worried about people trying to steal it.

[It'd send the wrong signals if the ploy happens and actually succeeds. It's also potentially dangerous.]

And what are people going to do with an indestructible magic device that frequently drags people in from different worlds and times?

[It seemed kind of silly to her, but she was willing to follow orders. That was what she was good at. She shrugged and decided to start eating; may as well get on with the delicious ulcer.]

Why are you handling it personally as well? Watch not enough for you or was it also a personal request?

This is part of my duties, you know. Security.

[Mmm, tea.]

There is also something that I'm curious about.

Last time I checked, high commanders didn't just wander around on security rounds. Do as you please.

[Mmm, tea and greasy Chinese take-out. How did she agree to this?]

See if you can steal BREW yourself? I don't think the white gloves will help you with that.

[Chuckles.]

Thank you for your valuable input. [Yeah, this is why he missed you.] Ah, there are a couple of other things...

[She shrugged. She said it as she saw it nothing more. The white gloves really clashed with the setting.]

Can you conduct your own investigation into this serial killer business? Few people can match your skills in digging up dirt.

[Among other things.]

I can, if that's what you want. I can tell you now that whoever it is, they are good at it.

[Beyond that, she would have to look into it deeper.]

And that worries me a little. Let's hope that it's not connected to the war.

[Because that could just get ugly. Crime, they can handle well enough.]

Though, looking at the list of victims so far, they are all locals. Could have nothing to do with the guests.

[Or it could be a guest taking out the locals. Or a local working towards guest. Or... too many possibilities.]

Mm.

[And he's thinking the same thing you are. It's all over his face.

...Okay. Time for more dumplings.]

Now for that last thing I was going to ask you for.

[She spent some time just chewing both the food and the topics of conversation. It seemed heavy, but at least business would never change in that regard.

So far, two tasks to concentrate on and be available for.]

And that is?

We're stranger and stranger people around these parts. I want to know if anyone's organizing the wrong kind of group among the guests.

[She listened silently, pushing a few noodles around with a fork before frowning at the final assignment. No rest for the weary, but then again, she didn't tire easily.]

What kind of group are you considering 'wrong' in Death City?

[thewarisover]

Something that'll make us end up fighting a war on two fronts: one at home against people who aren't supposed to be our enemies, and one with our actual enemies.

[Pauses, thinking this through.]

This is just a distant consideration of mine, and I can't rightly have eyes everywhere. I trust you to give me the head's up about anything worrisome. Hopefully I'm just having a case of battle nerves.

A war on two fronts will more be Shibusen's concern, won't it? Besides, no doubt it's a potential that they saw coming up anyway, given the circumstances in which people are pulled here.

[She shrugged her shoulders, aware it was a valid concern. She'd keep her ears to the ground and eyes on the network.]

I'll do my best on the assignments, yes.

[She glanced over at Roy now that business was over for the afternoon. She had her new assignments.]

[At his question, she simply shrugged her shoulders.]

Same as always. You're the one with the rough ride lately. How are you holding up?

Honestly? Much, much better.

[Eating, eating.]

I've mourned, and I still have my moments, but I've got people here. I've also managed to work through some of the things that were bugging me. Can't say that I'm completely all right, but...
