Characters: Kanji Tatsumi and Naoto Shirogane
Location: Temuco, Chile
Rating: PG-13
Time: July 14th, Evening
Description: The children of Temuco, Chile are being killed in the night, but their corpses still walk the streets looking for victims of their own. Parents are desperate to keep their children safe, and they have pleaded with the Chilian government to help them.
Despite the... unexplained occurrence earlier in the day, it wasn't going to stop the two from heading out to Chile. It was a matter of getting out of their abrupt costume change though and finishing other arrangements.
Naoto didn't know how to describe it, but she was feeling better. It was as though the past week had never been. Strange, but there wasn't time to look into it or visit Shibusen to inquire. Though, everyone did seem to be active at the time of their departure. Perhaps they had been returned momentarily as well? Nonetheless, there was something she had to note when they arrived in Chile.
By now, she would transform and scan the area, but she looked at the hand she held. Trying again, she frowned when nothing happened, but she felt the resonation between them still. Nothing... Well, this was concerning.

"We'll have to ask around..."

But as they turned a corner, the sirens began again. A police vehicle hauled ass past and Kanji watched it go. When it was followed not fifteen seconds later by paramedics, a cool worry built up in his system.
"Shit... think that's coincidence?"
no subject
She stopped at the sound of the sirens, eyes wide as the police car and ambulance sped passed.
"It could be. Only one way to be sure though." Still gripping his hand, she began to run.
no subject
Sure, it could be somethin' that had nothing to do with Shibusen business, but if this was a lead, then their target would be close by.
But heading on foot was nothing compared to vehicles, and they could only listen for the sirens. They had to resonate to move a bit faster, but... she still wasn't changing, and he couldn't work out why.
They had people they needed to protect. People only they could help... if they could just fight--
"Wh---!?" Suddenly, that core-deep feeling spread out into his limbs, and it was he who was awash in a blue light. The sensation in her hand lightened, then hardened. The young man who followed in step behind her was replaced by a familiar-looking pair of sunglasses.
no subject
"Kanji...!?"
Her head turned when his hand disappeared and she found her fingers clutching sunglasses. Eyes wide, she brought them forward and looked into the lenses. "... Are... did we...?"
This was wrong. BREW sent them back briefly and then swapped them?
no subject
"N-naoto!? why the hell am I a Weapon!?" But they could communicate. If he was a Weapon, and she couldn't transform-
"You gotta be kiddin' me, did we switch!? Right before our freakin' Witch assignment!?"
no subject
"It appears that way..." Her heart sunk. Right before their Witch assignment, they were reassigned duties? There was something gravely wrong about that. Definitely worth contacting Shibusen about, but now, there was a slight dilemma. They were in Chile for a mission.
"... Should we continue our mission? If we've been reset with our new assignments, this mission is ranked high for a beginning Meister. I don't even know my Meister Ability or what you can do now." Rushing in with little detail was not generally an action she would go with, but they couldn't just leave.

"...I wanna keep goin'. Our resonance doesn't feel too different, and we got a job to do. We can teach each other how we figured our shit out, yeah?" People were dying. They had to tighten their belts and press on, figure the swap shit out later. For now, he just had to give her a crash course on Meistering, while he learned how to be a Weapon.
With that, he tightened his focus. With it came understanding- Naoto could likely see what could be used in a pinch to fight, and feel a sort of understanding on how to throw a punch without the rookie mistake of breaking your knuckles.
Huh... So it was like how to fire a gun when he resonated with her. Instead, he was passing on the understanding of hand-to-hand combat. Curious, he wanted to see how she'd pull it off.
"Let's keep goin' and catch up to those sirens!"
no subject
Folding open the shades, she slipped them on carefully over her eyes and mentally fretted. Sunglasses at night really wasn't a good idea. Still, there was their resonance strengthening so she wouldn't linger on the issue.
Resonance was never difficult for the two of them. As far as they had come, it would be a surprise were it not possible to achieve higher between them. A pleasant chill raced through her and, eyes closing, she missed the cool air escaping her lips as she took in his knowledge. While she still had her kunai, this would have to be direct combat.
"I'm on it...!" Grey-blue eyes ahead, she sprinted, using the burst of energy she received to hurry after the police car and ambulance that passed earlier. The sirens were steadily growing louder.
no subject
But the chill wind worked up a shiver. Was it always this cold? Why'd he have to be naked for it? Ah, whatever. He was a man, he could put up with it.
"Not pickin' up anything around here, so nothin's noticed us yet. ...Shit, there goes another cop car! They didn't wait around before callin' backup."
For good reason. The vehicles were stopped in a neighborhood, lights flashing, and two paramedics were racing to the backyard of one of the houses, bags in hand. The police were speaking to a distraught man clutching a frightened little girl, looking up at her father, face painted in helplessness with the adult in such a frightening state.
"--Okay... okay, somethin' feels weird here. I, uh... range. I think my range is kinda short, but I'm gettin' the feeling the cops are gonna flip us some bullshit if we try ta get closer."
no subject
"Of course they didn't..." This wasn't a normal situation as she came to slow down. Watching the officers, she raised a hand to her chin, thinking how to proceed. Her eyes moved from the young girl and her father to the paramedics. The body bags they held caught her attention most.
"... Our egg probably struck here and hasn't gotten too far. Chances are, it hasn't left..." After all, police officers and paramedics wouldn't be able to stop it from getting a little girl if it really wanted it. "We're going around after the paramedics." She could already see a way to get by without attracting too much attention.
no subject
"Sounds good. I'll keep the eyes peeled. ...Man, your range in this kinda thing's way longer. Maybe my sight's--" He paused, and thought better of it. He'd been avoiding that subject for some time now.
"I got yer back."
no subject
The gold spark made her glance down briefly, wondering if her eyes were playing tricks before she shook her head. Taking another brief glance around to check the officers' positions again, she moved out of sight and hurried to follow the paramedics, fists clenched.
"I know you do, Kanji..." Reaching the backyard, she slowed as she came to the corner to duck and sneak forward. The paramedics might bust her too if they caught her.
no subject
The backyard was kept pointedly silent, families remaining in their homes when they heard the sirens, saw the lights. Too afraid to step out and find out what was happening, they instead heeded the news stories of children winding up killed in the area - a serial child killer - and wisely kept out of sight. The pair was about fifteen minutes too late for this small boy, laid crumpled in the grass, pale and lifeless after a failed struggle against the monster preying upon the community. The paramedics were checking vitals, but looks exchanged between one another didn't look convinced that they could do much. In just minutes they were preparing the body bag as a police officer began taking photographic evidence of the scene, taking in anything that could be evidence in tracking down the murderer. But they seemed stiff, edgy- they'd heard of bodies rising again, walking the streets. But zombies weren't real, were they!? Yet the rumors were too widespread to be ignored.
"Y'feel that? There's somethin' close by, but I dunno where..." All the while, the grass had gently shifted in the dark, like a snake was moving its way through. In the next moment, what appeared to be a corpse gave a sharp, shuddering breath, alarming the paramedics. They sought to cancel their calls, cry out for the mother to let them know the kid was alive, they were fine--
Until small teeth sunk into a nearby paramedic's arm, followed by a bellow of pain.
no subject
Naoto's eyes narrowed behind the shades as she took in the scene. Young boy, of course the victim, surrounded by the paramedics and a few forensic officers. Death was obvious from the coloration of the skin and lack of breathing. Argue silent breathing, but no child could manage that at the apparent age of the body. At least they seemed on alert in some way.
"Yes, I feel it..." That pressure was unmistakable. Surprisingly, it wasn't terrible, but she could still sense it. She nearly jumped when the boy gasped, but refocusing, she scowled. "That didn't waste any time..."
She felt the chill again as she stepped out of the shadows, one hand on her knife still tucked away while the other was balled. Immediately, she yelled at the officers and paramedics to get away from the body.
no subject
The resolve was given a push, and he added it to Naoto's power as she moved in. Clutching a bleeding wound in the confusion, the first paramedic and the others were too distracted by the sudden shock to wonder where this stranger came from and that they really shouldn't be here.
The child rose as if nothing happened, despite clammy pale skin and an empty look in his eyes. As the paramedics and police scattered for the house to treat the wounded man, the boy had turned his sights on the pair.
"Damn it, I ain't about to have us hit a freakin' kid! But what we're after controls 'em, right? So they gotta be close or it won't work, I think... I mean, it's how all the movies n' shit do it, yeah?"
no subject
Standing before the boy, she had taken a stance, one hand forward and the other back gripping kunai knife tight. "Yes. The last thing we want to do is mutilate the body."
Eyes narrowed, her mind worked fast. She was thinking back to the circus and the puppetmaster, but this, she didn't see anything that was connotative of such condition. The Madness was right in front of her and no where else. What did that mean? Naoto really wanted to be a Weapon again. "I can feel Madness coming off him. Kanji, can you locate the egg's main body?"
no subject
Strings... He recalled seeing the grass move when the malevolent feeling began, and as he narrowed his eyes and focused, all while enhancing his Meister's senses, he pointed with a spark of comprehension.
"I see a wire... it goes under the fence. After that I hit a big-ass wall of somethin' hungry n' pretty excited to see us. Givin' off a lotta Madness. It's hangin' out in the neighbor's yard!"
no subject
Well, that was frustrating. It wanted to stay hidden while obviously being known. Suspected they wouldn't dare harm a child like all the others and yes, Naoto was hesitant. Still, a chill over her body and around the kunai suddenly made her consider.
She couldn't let the egg catch onto them just yet. Naoto continued the conversation through the link.
"We'll continue with the plan to draw it out. Any idea what your ability is yet?"
no subject
But he wouldn't get any more time to figure it out, as the child was moving quickly toward them, mouth agape and arms outstretched. From behind the fence was shuffling, feet moving to remain within range and maintain control of the doll.
"Hold on a sec- that weird wall's closer. S'like it's roped to the kid!"
no subject
No time to ponder as the kid came at them. Fortunately, it was only a child so the could easily stave them off. Even someone at Naoto's height, but the egg wasn't going to play so simple. She moved aside, not noticing how she left an ice trail.
"So it's range it limited. Very well..." There were many ways to use this roping to their advantage.
no subject
But as the child moved closer, the pressure moved as well, until he watched the fence give, an all new figure appearing. It looked to be a shriveled old man, with long spindly fingers and gaunt, lifeless features of his own. From each finger dangled a string, shimmering a fine silver in the moonlight. One such string was attached to the boy that didn't want to let up. But the other strings were twitching and dancing as well.
"Gotta take him out quick- I can see the other strings and it looks like he's got somethin' at the end of all of 'em!"
no subject
Naoto was prepared for close combat in self-defensive terms. She slipped her kunai knife away and looked at the child. Control a puppet, you leave it limp. She moved around one side, but kept from the fence, looking how to do this.
Letting their soul spark again, she dashed on the energy and dropped into a low sweep to take the child down. Depending, she would pin him down and push Kanji's energy out to rush through his body and concentrate down that connection the egg made.
no subject
The child swept in from the right, moving like nobody his age should, but the controller hadn't expected Naoto to move as quickly as she had, the sweep knocking the legs out from under the pawn and taking him down. Pressure on the collarbone, the lower half to prevent all the possible maneuvers of recovery... Kanji nodded. Resonating granted understanding of use of the Weapon Form, and it looked like his was definitely sharing what he knew.
But there was a 'call' then, and he answered it, passing soul energy through the arm connected to the collarbone. With it the body came alive with sparks and thrashing as an electric current formed, but something else caught his attention as well- a rush of light thrummed through the 'cord' attached to the body.
"Nice one!" Attached by their little 'lifeline', the kishin egg's back went rigid, a howl of pain erupting from the throat. Its balance on the fence was gone, tumbling into the grass and revealing its further frailty. But empty eyes turned to the girl and the pressure grew.
"Damn it, is he callin' back-up!? ...One left, one right! I'll keep tabs on their moves- you jus' move like you've been crackin' skulls for years! We got this!"
no subject
"That's fine if it wants to call back up, but this one is going to pay now." More sparks to race down the line and fry the egg, but her grip became cold. The ice bolts froze the tether and raced along the line now to the surprise of the new Meister. She shot to her feet, shocked, but clutching line still.
"Where is...?" She whipped her head in the directions the other two eggs were supposed to be. Didn't look like they were visible yet. Then... was that her?
no subject
"Wait... s'that you? Your fingers were all chilly before that... that whatever it was happened." Because his Persona sure as hell couldn't really utilize ice. Couldn't Sumeragi, to some extent, along with fire?
But with a howl, two figures leaped over the fences to the left and right. The children were good to use for emotional purposes, but when a fight was to be had, you needed claws, fangs. The dogs had died long ago, but they were the perfect puppets to do some damage. Landing evenly on rotting paws, lips coated in a pinkish ooze, they braced themselves and sized up the new Meister.
