Cake is the best way to say thank you
Closed
Characters: Elena, Sephiroth and Cloud
Location: Cloud and Sephiroth's appartment
Rating: PG13
Time: Febuary 14th mid morning
Description: Elena, who's had a chocolate, is on her way to deliver a thank you cake to Cloud and his partner, only to have the effects of said chocolate hit when she arrives.
Elena double checked the cake as she got to the door where Cloud lived, making sure it hadn't shifted around too much. The neat and well flourished 'Thank you' was still as it had been when she boxed it up.
"Good." she said softly to herself. She was looking forward to giving the cake to Cloud, as odd as that seemed. Still she felt she owed him and his partner a great big thank you for coming and getting her out of that place.
She took a deep breath and knocked solidly on the door.
sorry for any typos, I'm writing this on my phone...
Sephiroth was unhappy with doing such a thing, since he would have been far happier to continue folding the paper, but he reluctantly pushed himself up and shooed Jenova into the bedroom before heading over to answer the door. When he pulled it open, the ex-General couldn't help but frown at the sight. What was the Turk doing here?
Still frowning, he did his best to keep his disapproval out of his voice as he half-demanded, "Is there a specific reason you're at my door?"

When there was no snarling coming from the door, he knew that Sephiroth was going to ignore it. He shut off the water and told his partner to get up and get the door. They hadn't planned on guests today, but that didn't mean that someone might drop in on them. It could be Shibusen or one of their friends.
Stepping out of the shower, he grabbed a towel and wiped down his skin quickly before wrapping it around his waist. He grabbed a smaller towel to rub his hair with, hearing Sephiroth's question and huffing lightly. Who taught that man to greet guests anyway? Oh... right, Hojo. That answered many questions about Sephiroth's normal behaviours.
Walking out of the bathroom, he approached the door. "Who is at the door and why are you being rude to them? At least give them a chocolate, would you?" Like... the ones outside their door.

She was just trying to figure out if she should double check that Cloud did live here or if she should try telling him that the cake was for Cloud and his partner when she heard the blonds voice.
"Oh... Cloud, um... I brought you something.

Sephiroth grunted lightly at the words Cloud called out before grudgingly stepping to one side to allow his Meister to sight the pitiful Turk. He didn't let his guard down at all, and continued to watch her with a cautious eye as she spoke of bringing Cloud something.
"Hn, then take whatever it is she brought you and leave it be," Sephiroth spoke to Cloud despite watching Elena carefully. Establishing that she was no threat, the ex-General said nothing further as he stepped away from the door and stalked his way deeper into the apartment. If anyone looked closely, the direction he headed was towards the balcony on the odd chance he needed a quick escape.

"Elena, it's nice to see you up and about," he murmured, shooting a look at Sephiroth for the unnecessary comment. He let the ex-General wander away and softened his expression purposefully. "That's a nice cake. I take it that you made it yourself?"
He stepped aside and allowed her room to step inside if she wanted to, waving a hand at his retreating partner. "Don't mind him. He's always a grumpy-gus with guests. Would you like some chocolate?"

She nodded mutely for a moment in response to his question about the cake. She looked nervously for a moment at the invite into Cloud's home before slipping inside. His offer of chocolate startled her as she hadn't been expecting it and her eyes snapped up to look directly at him for the first time since she arrived.
Normally she wasn't one for eating chocolates, but this seemed like a situation where it would be best if she just accepted it and tried anyway, after all it was something more then cold indifference which she was grateful for. "Ah, thank you." She said, speaking softly and nodding before adding "The cake, it's for you and your partner. For... helping me, back there."

Eyes narrowing at the mention of just who the cake was for, Sephiroth remained silent over his in his little corner.

He eased away to head towards the kitchen to set the cake down and retrieve the odd chocolates that they had received. He wasn't going to eat them, and he knew Sephiroth wouldn't either. It seemed silly to make them go to waste. He tossed the two they had to Elena. "Think fast," he called as he tossed them.
He remained in the kitchen, searching for a knife. "Let me cut a piece of cake for us, okay? I'll be right in."

"Thank you, for helping me, sir." She said, her voice fairly soft but sounding less like the fear she had held of him before. That said she popped one of the chocolate into her mouth, deciding not to be a rude guest and just eat the chocolate despite her dislike of them.

He didn't quite know why Cloud was bothering to cut the cake. It would have been far easier to simply take the damn thing and send the Turk on her way, and yet his Meister had foolishly decided that hadn't been the best option.

Of course, he felt his Weapon's disgruntled attitude through their link and purposefully cut two pieces, though one was the smallest of slivers. His partner had been part of the rescue effort, and that was good enough for him to earn a piece of cake, no matter how small.
"Spoon or fork, Sephiroth," he called from the kitchen, making his intentions perfectly clear.

Yet that wasn't what bothered him the most. No, it was the odd reaction Elena seemed to be having to his presence. He could take fear and hatred without even batting an eye, but the tears that began welling within her eyes was entirely unexpected, and while he tried not to look, Sephiroth found himself unable to stop.
If his presence was that unwelcome, then it was easy enough for him to simply leave through the balcony. While such thoughts ran through his mind, the ex-General grudgingly muttered to his Meister, "Neither." Since he wouldn't be eating the cake - especially not with someone other than Cloud around.

He knew that his partner hadn't said anything, and a glance at the silver-haired man told him that the ex-General had also noticed and was trying to avoid the situation. He shifted over to her, leaning down to catch her attention as he raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong?"
no subject
"Um... yes, I... I'm sorry, I'm being a bother. I should... go." She looked a bit upset still, though a coy kind of shyness was starting to take over.

"No, no, you're no bother, but... why are you crying? Did I do something?" He paused for a moment, glancing at his partner apologetically. "Did Sephiroth do something? I know he's prettier than us, but that's not reason to cry."
