Cake is the best way to say thank you

Closed

Characters: Elena, Sephiroth and Cloud

Location: Cloud and Sephiroth's appartment

Rating: PG13

Time: Febuary 14th mid morning

Description: Elena, who's had a chocolate, is on her way to deliver a thank you cake to Cloud and his partner, only to have the effects of said chocolate hit when she arrives.

Elena double checked the cake as she got to the door where Cloud lived, making sure it hadn't shifted around too much. The neat and well flourished 'Thank you' was still as it had been when she boxed it up.

"Good." she said softly to herself. She was looking forward to giving the cake to Cloud, as odd as that seemed. Still she felt she owed him and his partner a great big thank you for coming and getting her out of that place.

She took a deep breath and knocked solidly on the door.

sorry for any typos, I'm writing this on my phone...

He was halfway through making a small origami dragon when the knock to the door sounded. Frowning lightly to himself, he didn't stop the flash of annoyance felt within at whoever it was. They could have at least had the common decency to wait until Cloud was out of the shower. He didn't think that anyone was schedules to meet with them today, and Sephiroth was all set to ignore the knock before Cloud called out for hin to answer it.

Sephiroth was unhappy with doing such a thing, since he would have been far happier to continue folding the paper, but he reluctantly pushed himself up and shooed Jenova into the bedroom before heading over to answer the door. When he pulled it open, the ex-General couldn't help but frown at the sight. What was the Turk doing here?

Still frowning, he did his best to keep his disapproval out of his voice as he half-demanded, "Is there a specific reason you're at my door?"

Cloud had decided to take a shower after his morning training so that he was less smelly to face to the day, not that someone as heroic as he was could put up that bad of a stink. Still, it was a common courtesy to have a shower, and he was just finishing when he heard the vague sounds of a knocking at the front door. Thank the planet for SOLDIER hearing.

When there was no snarling coming from the door, he knew that Sephiroth was going to ignore it. He shut off the water and told his partner to get up and get the door. They hadn't planned on guests today, but that didn't mean that someone might drop in on them. It could be Shibusen or one of their friends.

Stepping out of the shower, he grabbed a towel and wiped down his skin quickly before wrapping it around his waist. He grabbed a smaller towel to rub his hair with, hearing Sephiroth's question and huffing lightly. Who taught that man to greet guests anyway? Oh... right, Hojo. That answered many questions about Sephiroth's normal behaviours.

Walking out of the bathroom, he approached the door. "Who is at the door and why are you being rude to them? At least give them a chocolate, would you?" Like... the ones outside their door.

The fact that she was startled had his mood dropping even further. One would think that a Turk would be resourceful enough to discover any and all information about their targeted location, but then again, the Turks were never useful beyond the ShinRa network. Seeing Elena standing there in her startled form was enough to answer that thought.

Sephiroth grunted lightly at the words Cloud called out before grudgingly stepping to one side to allow his Meister to sight the pitiful Turk. He didn't let his guard down at all, and continued to watch her with a cautious eye as she spoke of bringing Cloud something.

"Hn, then take whatever it is she brought you and leave it be," Sephiroth spoke to Cloud despite watching Elena carefully. Establishing that she was no threat, the ex-General said nothing further as he stepped away from the door and stalked his way deeper into the apartment. If anyone looked closely, the direction he headed was towards the balcony on the odd chance he needed a quick escape.

Cloud eased his way towards the door, making certain to keep one eye on his Weapon as he stepped into the spot that Sephiroth had just vacated. He knew that the ex-General was still scrutanizing her, but he paid that little mind as he spotted the cake in her hands. He almost regretted showing up in a towel.

"Elena, it's nice to see you up and about," he murmured, shooting a look at Sephiroth for the unnecessary comment. He let the ex-General wander away and softened his expression purposefully. "That's a nice cake. I take it that you made it yourself?"

He stepped aside and allowed her room to step inside if she wanted to, waving a hand at his retreating partner. "Don't mind him. He's always a grumpy-gus with guests. Would you like some chocolate?"

He loomed over near the balcony door while they had their exchange. The fact that his Meister thought it prudent to invite such a 'guest' into their apartment caused a flash of protectiveness throughout him, but he forced the feeling to return from where it had originally came from. That didn't mean that the muscles along his shoulders weren't tense, and while it seemed that he wasn't paying attention, his sharp gaze remained locked on the pair as she stepped within the boundaries of his sanctuary.

Eyes narrowing at the mention of just who the cake was for, Sephiroth remained silent over his in his little corner.

Cloud shut the door when Elena had entered inside before he reached out to take the cake from her. He had only had sweets that Sephiroth had made some time ago, so this was quite a surprise. He glanced at Elena, noting that her gaze strayed between him and his Weapon. "You didn't have to, but I appreciate it. I speak for both of us," he added, gesturing with his head towards his looming partner.

He eased away to head towards the kitchen to set the cake down and retrieve the odd chocolates that they had received. He wasn't going to eat them, and he knew Sephiroth wouldn't either. It seemed silly to make them go to waste. He tossed the two they had to Elena. "Think fast," he called as he tossed them.

He remained in the kitchen, searching for a knife. "Let me cut a piece of cake for us, okay? I'll be right in."

The last thing he wanted was any form of thanks or gratitude from anyone, especially not from a Turk. It wasn't as though he had been the one to decide to save the foolish girl or not as he'd simply been the Weapon of choice was all. That was why he grunted to himself at the offer and dismissively glanced away.

He didn't quite know why Cloud was bothering to cut the cake. It would have been far easier to simply take the damn thing and send the Turk on her way, and yet his Meister had foolishly decided that hadn't been the best option.

Cloud really had no idea that the chocolates were anything special, but it was all he had to offer that wasn't cake. Neither he nor Sephiroth ate sweets, and his Weapon ate even less than anyone anyway. Still, he knew from long years of nagging that it was rude not to at least show interest in a gift of appreciation.

Of course, he felt his Weapon's disgruntled attitude through their link and purposefully cut two pieces, though one was the smallest of slivers. His partner had been part of the rescue effort, and that was good enough for him to earn a piece of cake, no matter how small.

"Spoon or fork, Sephiroth," he called from the kitchen, making his intentions perfectly clear.

There was no doubt to the determined air hovering around Cloud, and Sephiroth knew well that he wouldn't have much choice in the matter. He had absolutely no interest in partaking in Elena's 'gift', and remained ill-at-ease while his sanctuary was encroached by the young Turk.

Yet that wasn't what bothered him the most. No, it was the odd reaction Elena seemed to be having to his presence. He could take fear and hatred without even batting an eye, but the tears that began welling within her eyes was entirely unexpected, and while he tried not to look, Sephiroth found himself unable to stop.

If his presence was that unwelcome, then it was easy enough for him to simply leave through the balcony. While such thoughts ran through his mind, the ex-General grudgingly muttered to his Meister, "Neither." Since he wouldn't be eating the cake - especially not with someone other than Cloud around.

He wasn't actually going to take 'no' for an answer from his Weapon, so he decided for the ex-General. He picked out a spoon and picked up the two plates and made his way out of the kitchen before pausing at the sight of tears welling in Elena's eyes.

He knew that his partner hadn't said anything, and a glance at the silver-haired man told him that the ex-General had also noticed and was trying to avoid the situation. He shifted over to her, leaning down to catch her attention as he raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong?"

[personal profile] pure_lineage 2012-05-18 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
To say that Sephiroth was confused about this entire situation was an understatement. He didn't understand what was going on anywhere around him, and wondered how he'd done something wrong even if he'd done nothing more than remove himself from the conversation. Outside of leaving, Sephiroth wasn't certain what would be the best move for him to make. Besides, she was Cloud's guest after all.

Cloud couldn't help but follow her gaze from him to Sephiroth, and he had to wonder what on Gaea she was trying to indicate. Ah, why did girls have to have subtle body language that went with their tears? It made it impossible for him to figure things out, and one glance at Sephiroth made it clear his partner was in the dark as he was.

"No, no, you're no bother, but... why are you crying? Did I do something?" He paused for a moment, glancing at his partner apologetically. "Did Sephiroth do something? I know he's prettier than us, but that's not reason to cry."
