Description: Welcome to Death City!


The city was in good shape today, despite the recent attack to it and the unfortunate earthquake a month back. The damages to the city had been repaired best as they could, and everything else was covered in a healthy heap of decor for the upcoming Valentine’s Day.

Things were a bit somber, as was expected after so many of the residents lost their loved ones. Fortunately, if there was something Death City was good at, it was getting back on its feet after a fall.

Touma stood with his arms crossed. He had his reservations about this, but knew he couldn't simply opt out. So he stood quietly and waited his turn, before opting to go up to the machines.

This madness at least presented a mildly scientific option, so he figured he should take it.

The constant motion of helping new guests was almost therapeutic in how it aided in his distraction. It allowed his mind to stray away from thoughts of a dark-haired girl with the same eyes, looking hurt because her cousin couldn't stand to be around her.

Neji turned to the next person in line, white eyes taking in his appearance and noted the mild bit of apprehension. It wasn't unusual, but he often thought it unfounded.

"There's no need for concern; the process is painless and doesn't take long."

he sounds like Itachi, lol

"The potential for pain is the least of my concerns right now," he said.

"More the dubiousness of this whole operation and the fact I have to take all of this at your word."

"For now, perhaps. In time however, you will be able see everything for yourself. All we can do is attempt to prepare you for it."

Neji gestured for Touma to step behind the machine. "Learning which type of soul you have will aid in your understanding."

"Yes, well, even that seems like a lot to accept on good faith."

He moved to step behind the machine, saying nothing more. It wasn't that Touma denied the concept of the soul - he did use a "digi soul" once upon a time, but the actual soul, that was a bit hard to swallow in a situation like this. He couldn't discount that this was all an elaborate con.

Neji hummed an unconcerned note as he watched the soul slide onscreen. Knowing what to look for after months of doing the same thing, it took him less than a minute to determine the alignment.

"You are a Meister, meant to wield a Weapon should you have the inclination. All Meisters have an inherent ability granted to them by BREW generally discovered through resonance and in some cases, meditation."

"... I see. And how do I determine what ability I have?" he asked, arms crossed.

"Generally speaking, Meister abilities are usually related to a capability or affinity an individual had back in their own world. While practicing resonance or meditation are often found to be the best methods, occasionally one may activate under stress as well."

"I see," he said. "And I suppose I'm expected to acquire a partner?"

Neji frowned. "You're free to live as a civilian if you so choose. Shibusen will provide for your basic needs. If you intend to join in the war effort however, you will need a partner. Meisters are generally incapable of fighting against Kishin eggs on their own as normal weaponry cannot kill them."

[touma_h_norstein]

"I see. And this war... is there a place I can find details on its history?"

He nodded, with a glance in a seemingly random direction like an internal compass of the city's landmarks despite being inside.

"Shibusen has a large library you can peruse any additional information you're interested in."

[touma_h_norstein]

"I see. Thank you. Is there anything else required of me?"

"No, this was the last phase of the tour. You're free to explore the city or retire to your residence."

[touma_h_norstein]

"I see. Thank you for being... informative, at the very least," Touma said with a sigh.

The corners of his mouth twitched upward into a vague hint of a smile. "I was stationed here for a reason. I hope you find the rest of the answers you're searching for."

Touma made the same vague smile. "No problem," he said. "Perhaps I'll let you know if I do."
