[OPEN] June 2012 Intro Log
Characters: OPEN
Where: Inside Shibusen - The Tour
Rating: Gen
Time: March 1 onwards
Description: Welcome to Death City! Ignore the sand.
It’s one of those days when the BREW starts making the weird energy readings it gives when about to pull people into Death City. Shibusen prepares the place as usual, setting up their tables, the communicators, and calling for the agents who kindly volunteered every time this happened.
Just before the BREW starts, however, a cloud of sand rolls over the city and covers it in darkness, dust, and wind, going high enough to envelop even Shibusen on top of its normally safe location overlooking the city. The alarms go out, the residents quickly retreat to shelter, and Shibusen...
Needless to say, Shibusen isn’t happy about this, and resignedly prepares the dorms instead.
ooc: Player characters will also be joining the log. Everything after the sub thread Dormitories is open to all characters, and people are free to make their own threads. Please put a header on it: [NAME][LOCATION][OPEN/CLOSE]

KISHIN CHAMBER
And that was something Death the Kid never liked. This was supposed to be a routine tour where people came in, got their things, learned what was needed to be done, and then everyone could call it a day. Simple, neat, and most importantly, orderly. But no. This time had to be a special snowflake.
So after the standard procedure of seeing the projection and being confused as one could possibly be, the new group of arrivals would soon find themselves in a larger room where one Death the Kid stood at the exact center with the various volunteers gathered in their proper places.
“Greetings, everyone,” he said in a loud and clear voice, one that most might not have expected to come from the strange looking teenager. And no, those three white stripes on the left side of his hair was not some fashion statement. “I know you must all be confused and have several questions, all of which will be answered in due time. I am Death the Kid, the current acting Shinigami and leader of Death City. You will be given your communicators and their manual. These are telecommunication devices that allow you to contact one another and to us.”
His look hardened for a moment. “Normally we would give everyone a tour of the school and of the city, but there is currently a sandstorm passing through the area. For everyone’s safety, the tour has been restricted to the school grounds and the dorms. As Death City is situated in a desert, such storms are actually not that uncommon and should pass within a day or two. In the meantime, we are placing everyone in the dorms and I can assure you there are plenty of rooms available. We will also provide any food and other amenities you may need.”
There was much more he could say, but time was short.
“If you have any questions, you are free to ask them.”
Re: SOUL PERCEPTION
He was surprised when he was handed in the communicator. Staring at it and finally raising his head to hear the explanation.
"Why would you need a device if I can simply talk to you like this?" he asks in a loud voice.

Re: KISHIN CHAMBER
She stood up, securing her straps and the furs that large obscured her when she noticed that her weapons were missing. That was a bit odd, to have that singled out and dream or not she couldn't help but feel a bit wary now, more out of instinct than anything. She studied her surroundings more intently, taking in the curious and foreign architecture, the strange symbols on the walls and most prominently the floor. She then moved onto the others around her and the more she looked, the less she felt that these were trolls. There were either minute differences such as their variety in hair color, dull teeth and white sclera. Then there were others yet different from them entirely.
She drew some curious eyes as well it seem. Some wary, some intrigued, some who only gave her a passing glance. All in all it made one thing clear--these people (creatures?) were every bit as puzzled as she was.
That was when the three screens flickered to life. Disciple frowned at them, clearly unaccustomed to such technology but she listened to what she was being told and slowly she began to doubt her assumption that this was all a dream. She was vaguely surprised that she could understand him, but what he was saying was even more so. Then the young boy with the odd stripes in his head speaks. She takes the communicator and manual when it's handed to her, flicking the latter open to see she's able to read with ease.
She approached Kid, or any of those that seemed among his group.

But they had skipped over one thing that Hiccup was quite concerned about, so he raised his hand.
"What about dragon attacks?"

And then, suddenly, he realized what was off. There was no echo to his thoughts, no feeling of someone in the back of his mind. Anders couldn't feel Justice. Blindly he grabbed for the nearest shoulder, needing to catch himself as it sank in that he was alone.

Re: KISHIN CHAMBER
He listened to the teenager with the stripes, frowning thoughtfully as he listened to the others talk and receive answers, taking quiet mental notes. A war to maintain order against beings more inclined to chaos. The crazy part was that in some ways it wasn't all that different from his world in that the past five years had been a struggle to maintain some level of order when every living thing on Earth could randomly turn into a monster.
Which raised a serious question...
"How much nanotechnology is here?" he asked.

Re: KISHIN CHAMBER
On the other hand, Gray wasn't sure whether to be grateful or not for being pulled into this place. Maybe it was an afterlife? It was called Death City, and the kid with weird hair even had death in his name. It was entirely possible that the stupid dragon had killed everyone on the island with that last attack. It really wasn't a thought he wanted to entertain though, and it also brought on the question of where everyone else from the island was. Why was he the only one here?
He raised a hand to ask a question, wincing as it tugged at his bandages. Why had Erza insisted on tying them so tight? She was definitely being too enthusiastic about the nurse outfit, despite not having healing magic like Wendy. "So what are the chances of people we know being here?"

It was an effort to find a question worth asking, and the harder she tried to think of something useful, the more vague, half-formed and utterly ridiculous they seemed to become. A frown tugged at her lips and one hand settled on her waist.
"Just...who--or what--are we supposed to be fighting against again?" Marta's head tilted to one side as she spoke. She was almost certain that the word "witches" had been mentioned at one point, but it was hard to imagine that whatever these people had waged a full-blown war against were a bunch of wrinkled up old hangs stewing away over a caldron and tempting young girls with poisoned apples.

Re: KISHIN CHAMBER
Almost as soon as his weight settled on the new flooring, he collapsed backwards, falling to the ground with a sickening thump on the ground. His arms fell away from his face, his mouth twisted in a scream that could no longer come from the damage of the flames.
He twitched feebly on the ground, attempting to roll over but the agony of his extensive burns kept him frozen and dying. He couldn't breathe; he couldn't move. Some legend he had become.

Oh, the idea made her shiver. What would she do if she wasn't a cat anymore? Ah! Nightmare! No more bad thoughts!
She pocketed the communicator, finding that simple enough to use and raised a claw. "Yeah, question. I was in the middle of something. If I help out here, will I be able to get back to that?"

Re: KISHIN CHAMBER
Samus wasted no time beating around the bush. Between the sandstorm and the news of why she was here, she was not exactly happy. And she'd be damned if she was going to take orders from a kid.

It helped her to be less confused. But she couldn't help not looking at the communicator she was given. It was like a tiny mirror... A personal Eluvian. She ran a finger over the screen.
"Elgan'nan!" She nearly drops it when the screen comes on. Her mirror that she kept in her house never did that when she touched it.

AROUND SHIBUSEN
"Uhm, hello? Uh, my name's Crona. This place we're in right now is called Shibusen. It's a school. It's easy to get lost… I get lost sometimes… so be careful if you decide to go to class. You don't have to go, but lots of people are nice here, so it's not so bad..."
Crona trails off and pauses, moving slowly at the head of this group as he takes them on their tour. Enough has been covered, right? Wait, no, there's a few things missing. There was a bunch of stuff Crona was supposed to say, wasn't there? What was it…
"Oh, uhm. If you want, there are morning training sessions in the morning at the park. Meisters can learn their abilities and Weapons can learn to transform there… Stuff like that. Uhm, but I guess there wouldn't be training during sandstorms…"
Crona becomes silent again, wondering whether the introduction to the school can be over yet. Too bad there's still a little bit more to talk about. "If you're ever in trouble the Watch will probably be able to help you. You might only need them sometimes though. There's a surveillance system so usually anything troublesome is stopped early."
Crona stops, mostly sure now that everything that was supposed to be said has been. But by now Crona's unsure what to do with the group following him. Normally they would continue outside to see the city, right? No, that won't work out with this weather though. It takes Crona another moment before making the suggestion for the group to move on.
"… I guess you should go find whoever is doing Soul Perception now."
Re: AROUND SHIBUSEN
Hopefully, he wouldn't come across as too intimidating for this nervous boy. (Why did this place employ so many children? It made him uneasy.)

SOUL PERCEPTION
Maka slowly began to circle around the room, subtly overlooking anyone who was in the room. It was always interesting to see what sorts of people BREW decided to bring in next... "But, to get a little deeper into it," she began to explain, pressing a hand to her chest. "you may have heard about souls and their importance. Everyone has one, and each of them is unique for every individual. And when it comes to partnering up, not only is finding someone your soul wavelength is compatible with imperative, but it's also where your strength and power can come from."
Then, Maka stopped in place, turning back to the crowd. "You'll be taught about that in-depth later, however. We always have the morning training sessions for those who need more practice with it. For now," she pointed a finger, although at no one in particular. "we only need to find out whether you're a Meister or a Weapon, and I'll be the one to tell you that. Of course, if you have any other questions, I'd be more than willing to help you out; to be honest, this is really only a short crash course.
"But first thing's first." Again, Maka beamed a smile, though she only was trying to appear approachable; after all, it would only be understandable if there were a few reluctant and hesitant ones that were standing around. "Anyone ready?"
no subject
She didn't wait long when Maka asked who was prepared--she stepped forth and raised a hand to catch her attention. Perhaps a pointless act since she would have been hard to miss, wild looking as she was with her raggedy clothing, long mane of wild hair from which poked out long horns, and various pelts that adorned her.

He frowned at the terms being tossed around, wavelength, meister, weapon. They made no sense to him.
"How does a soul relate to this? Why would we be a weapon or the other? Am I ready for what?" Anders felt a little annoyance rising through the confusion. What was she, or the gathered others, going to do? He rubbed his forehead.

To himself he tried to repeat what he had just been told, counting it off on his fingers.
"Okay so souls are a big deal, you need to get along with people to be strong? Something like that. There's two different kinds, and this is all because a thing decided it was a good idea to bring us here to fight a war we don't know anything about.
"Awesome."

He didn't know that for certain, but there was a throbbing in between his eyes that he was fairly certain wasn't just some weird radio waves (and if this was Contact, he had always expected to be Matthew McConaughey and not Jodie Foster, and he didn't want any aliens taking on any form). The more people talked about stuff, the more his soul (it was his soul, right?) hurt more and more, and he thought to himself, quite privately, that he wondered if Washington also hosted a myriad of supernatural soul-hurty beings. Maybe it would be like, ghosts. And then the real Ghostbusters would need to hunt them down! That would certainly make his soul hurt less.
Being a practical boy, he rocked back and forth expectantly to see what sort of soul he was. Maybe he was a lone soul. Maybe he was just a shoe-in, a heel, in need of a soul. Souls souls souls. Souls.
His head really hurt.

Re: SOUL PERCEPTION
"You're just looking, correct?" he asked with a touch of warning.
He didn't know much about this world, but he didn't want to find out that his soul had been manipulated somehow.
That and once again he was bothered by how young these soldiers were.

He couldn't deny that he was especially interested in what his soul looked like. He hadn't even known that souls had a visible shape, but then again the concept of souls back home wasn't very important compared to the importance Death City placed on them.

DORMITORY
SANDSTORM RESCUE
[lavi][shopping district][closed]
[but the roiling dust stinging his eye and the slow throbbing pain in his chest convinces him otherwise. this much sand means that it's a sandstorm, and even though Lavi has no idea how he landed himself in one, his instincts convince him to make for the nearest building.]
[not being able to see three feet in front of him pretty much hinders that idea though, so Lavi just - kneels in the middle of the street with his scarf wrapped around his face. maybe he can...crawl...there just as soon as he catches his breath.]
