[OPEN] Feb 2012 Intro Log

Characters: OPEN to new arrivals and NPCS.
Where: En route to Casualty Communal
Rating: Gen
Time: January 26 onwards
Description: Hello, everyone!

It was gloomy weather in Death City, made even gloomier by the state of the city and the tired silence of its inhabitants. Cleaning up after one disaster or another wasn’t cheerful work, anyway, and the commercial district was still muddy in places from the flood three days before.

Still, gloomy or not, everyone seemed welcoming of the new guests, from the heads of Shibusen down to the littlest girl in the pastry store. Even the sun had a smile just for them, from behind the occasional cloud.

Welcome to Death City, newcomers!

[ooc: Player characters will also be joining the log. Everything after the sub thread Soul Perception is open to all characters.]

She gratefully takes a basket, surprised at the hospitality the people here offered newcomers. They could just as easily treat them all as a burden, so it was refreshing. It was also good to know that housing was free. She hadn't any Gald on her, so she wouldn't have been able to pay for a place to stay until she had a means of making money.

The talk of partnering up with a weapon catches her interest. She'd heard the system mentioned a few times over the course of the tour, but no one had really elaborated on how it worked.

"I keep hearing about these partnerships, but I'm not sure I understand--how does one find someone who works well with them? Is it try until you succeed, or is there an easier way?"

"Um," Clare paused trying to decide how best to explain it, "For the most part it's trial and error. Some people can help you narrow it down, matching you to other people seeking a partner." Clare wasn't sure how much she could say on the subject, she had no regular partner, she wasn't practiced with resonance, and has never been tested in true combat.

"It's better to keep these questions in mind if you go to Morning Training. People test resonance there every day, trying to find a partner," Clare smiled, trying her best to cover her insecurities over the whole issue. "For the most part you should look for someone you get along with. That's the most important thing. It's all about trust."

Tear listens to her carefully, nodding, her expression serious. Finding a partner might be more difficult that she initially thought. "I see, so I'll just have to try until I'm able to find someone I'm able to trust.

That is a hefty thing to ask of someone, though. It would be a burden on both."

She can understand, of course, why it was necessary. This kind of fighting was different from just fighting in a group. In a group, while you had to rely on your comrades, you had more freedom to focus. Each team member had their own part to play. This partnership system...from the sounds of things, you weren't just acting as two people working together. You had to move as one unit, working to protect each others lives.

A hefty burden indeed.

"It- Finding a partner is hard, but getting resonance with someone is very," Clare paused to let the words flow through her mind until the best choice could be made. She was both trying to greet newcomers to the city and be a useful member of the community, "reassuring, comfortable." It wasn't an easy thing to describe.

"My mind keeps thinking of it like dating, but with even more at stake," She said it quietly, like it was a little unorthodox to admit to such thoughts. But a permanent partnership was much like a marriage, so it wasn't an apt comparison, "I'm Clare."

"It must be nice." A pause. "Though...it's like dating?" She seems kind of uncomfortable with that, not that she's ever actually dated. That would require letting someone close, breaking down barriers that she'd put up to keep herself distant...much like partnering up with someone seems to require.

"The more I hear about this, the more challenging it seems--And it's a pleasure to meet you, Clare. I'm Tear."

"There's a lot of trust involved, and the more you work together with a single partner the deeper a connection can go," Clare answered, which in her mind was dating. Clare figured, in attempting to show things about the city, she should be a bit less... reserved, on personal information. Maybe show that the issues with finding a partner aren't universal.

...But she didn't feel like telling a stranger about her parents divorce, her ex boyfriend's meltdown, and how much that's dampening her ability to match with a partner, "I have trust issues. It makes partnering more difficult for me. But a lot of people partner rather quickly here." She tried to keep her tempo even as she shared, but the words rushed just a little when she started.

Maybe it wasn't detailed, but it was honest. And it might help.

"Issues with trust are not uncommon." She had them, though hers had more to do with how she'd been raised than anything. She pauses a moment, considering Care's words. "I'm always surprised, when people can trust so openly."

"Ah--but thank you. I understand how this system works a little better now, at least I believe I do." Not that she was comfortable with it. She would rather not have to rely on someone in that way. Though she knew she'd have to if she wanted to aid in the war.
