Description: Hello, everyone!


It was gloomy weather in Death City, made even gloomier by the state of the city and the tired silence of its inhabitants. Cleaning up after one disaster or another wasn’t cheerful work, anyway, and the commercial district was still muddy in places from the flood three days before.

Still, gloomy or not, everyone seemed welcoming of the new guests, from the heads of Shibusen down to the littlest girl in the pastry store. Even the sun had a smile just for them, from behind the occasional cloud.

A Meister or a Weapon. What a pain in the ass! She was never too great at remembering rules (or following the ones she did know), but this was way too many and way too fast! Kid didn't even know what an X-Ray machine was, much less whether she would prefer it over a Soul Percepting. Or. Whatever it was the guy with the dumb hair said. Did he say his name was Death the Kid? That was pretty damn close to infringement, if you asked her.

"I don't care what you use! Just tell me what I got so I can be on me way."

[perfectorder]

Oblivious of the hair and name commentary, the real Kid gave a slight frown at the girl's attitude.

"Very well," he sighed. "I'll use my Soul Perception as it will be faster than using the X-Ray."

[snatching]

Attention from the boss man (?) himself! Just what she likes to hear. But first, questions.

"Ya go by Death, or Kid? Or do ya use the whole thing all the time? What kinda name is that, anyway?"

[perfectorder]

"Kid," he said with a small sigh. "And I was named after my father."

"And you?" he asked. It only was proper—she knew his name, he might as well learn whose soul he was perceiving.

[snatching]

"Me name's Kid, too. But just Kid, nothin' fancy on top."

[perfectorder]

That was a clear look of surprise on his face.

"Really? Well...this is a little strange." Not many people name their children just "Kid," after all, so meeting someone with either name or nickname was new for him. "But nevertheless, it's a pleasure to meet you, Kid."

...Yeah, that was still definitely awkward and strange for him, but he would get used to it eventually. Now he just had to be more alert and careful should someone addressed either of them without specifying.

[snatching]

"It's probably just me and you, mate," she said with a smile, before changing the subject to the real matter at hand. "Ya wanna tell me which one I am, now?"

[perfectorder]

"Of course, one moment."

Straightening, he closed his eyes and activated his Soul Perception. He could sense the other souls around him, but he focused on the girl in front of him. It certainly reflected her personality, at least from what he had seen. But a good soul nonetheless.

"You are a meister," he finally said after a few moments, eyes reopening to look at her.

[snatching]

"So that means I gotta find a weapon?"

[perfectorder]

"Correct, but it shouldn't be too difficult. There are a number of unpartnered weapons and I'm sure there's someone who would be compatible with your soul. There are also a few programs to help both meisters and weapons find a partner."

[snatching]

Hm. She was gonna have to get on it pretty fast, even free food and housing would get boring after a while.

"What kinda weapons can I find?"

[perfectorder]

"A variety, actually," Kid mused. "The weapon's form usually fits the person's personality or relate to something back from their world. There are physical bladed weapons, trajectory weapons such as the bow or gun, staffs, gloves—there are even weapons that could take on seemingly unconventional forms, such as a toy, book, or even a disc."

"However," he added, "regardless of the form, so long as the resonance between the two partners is strong then the attacks will also reflect that strength."

[snatching]

"How do ya tell who's what?"

[perfectorder]

"Usually it's the weapon who discovers their form. Although I would be able to tell the type of their soul, I wouldn't be able to tell what actual form they would have."

[snatching]

"Just gotta ask around, then?"

[perfectorder]

"That would be the most effective way, yes."

"Did you have a particular weapon back in your world?" he asked, a little curious.

[snatching]

"I used knives," she said proudly, patting the empty sheath on her hip. "Ain't too bulky, still packs a punch."

[perfectorder]

"Hmmm..." He looks up thoughtfully, trying to see if he could recall hearing about a knife based Weapon. "I'm sure there is a Weapon of that type, but if not I suspect you'll be able to work with a comparable weapon."

[snatching]

"There's gotta be," she said. "But I'm flexible."

She's not the most fearsome bandit around for nothing!

[perfectorder]

"Then I wish you the best of luck," he smiled. She definitely seemed like someone who would be able to do whatever she put her mind into.
