[Closed log]
Characters: Obito and his best bro, Kakashi
Location: Death City public library
Rating: PG-13 (for trauma)
Time: Jan 22, mid-morning
Description: Obito and Kakashi decided to ditch morning training and are in the market for some new reading material. However, the surprise earthquake that morning derails their plans.
The library was quiet. Too quiet.
Obito was an Uchiha, but he was probably the last person to enjoy being stuck in a quiet place for any extended period of time. Sure, that made a great atmosphere for napping, but in a public place there should be movement and life. And that often meant talking. Maybe not Gai-levels of loudness, but still something.
Obito peered around the corner of the shelf he was pretending to take great interest in (though he really didn't know any of these Young Adult novels, so he couldn't very well browse effectively) and spied on Kakashi where he stood perusing the covers in a different section. It struck him that he had been living in Death City for about two weeks now and he was still not any more used to seeing Kakashi grown up. An adult for many years now, and almost nothing like he had been when they were children. The amount that had changed was disturbing.
Obito sighed, then returned to looking at the books in front of him. He had a lot he still needed to discuss with his friend, but the timing always seemed to be off. Or Gai was around and distracting them. Or... a million other excuses came to mind. In the end, the Uchiha had decided he could always talk to Kakashi about it another day, and the same thought came to mind now. Don't think about it, just put it off until later. He would have plenty of time now that he was alive again. There was always tomorrow...

Nothing quite came close to Icha Icha.
He glanced around the shelves and caught sight of his young teammate examining some teen reading. Hopefully Obito was having more luck than Kakashi was. He hadn't yet given much time to getting to KNOW Obito, despite all those years wondering what it would be like to befriend his young teammate. It was frightening to open up to him, to let him into Kakashi's life in a way no living person really had, but that Obito had been in death. Kakashi hadn't even figured out yet where he stood with Obito... Maybe it was better not to have that question answered. Maybe he could keep putting it off indefinitely.
Kakashi was just reshelving a book about cowboys when he heard a low rumble. It was barely perceptable at first, and Kakashi nearly dismissed it as a bookcart wheeling down the neighboring aisle, until the window panes rattled. Then it all seemed to happen quickly: the books on the shelves started to shake, the floor rumbled, overhead lights swayed, and the shelves themselves began to rattle and shake. He put his hand up to brace on the shelf, hoping they were bolted to the ground and wouldn't start toppling over on top of the patrons. Now might be a good time to consider finding a table to get under, he thought, as all around the library, books shook loose of their resting places, falling off the sides of shelves, dropping off the front into the aisles, falling onto startled library goers.
He should get to Obito... And then, as soon as it had come, the earthquake was over.

A hitch of breath. He remembered this feeling very well. It was the same in the cave that last day. The Iwagakure nin had used his powers to bring the cave down upon them. It wasn't dark in here, but the rocking, and the sound of falling books and rattling shelves was evoking a twisting, cold fear in his gut. He may have been imagining it, but he could swear he could hear buildings crumbling.
"Kakashi...?" Obito tried to keep his voice level but a constricting feeling in his throat made him hoarse. He needed to move, to go check on his friend. They needed to get out, or else--
Something hard hit Obito on the shoulder, the shock buckling his knees and sending him to the ground. Some more things started falling, books from the shelf left loose from lazy patrons, and each one hit him with an unforgiving, limp weight. He had to move! To run! But he legs just wouldn't cooperate. Pushing himself up, Obito struggled to crawl away but couldn't even find the strength for that.
Nearly sobbing in distress, he leaned against the nearest shelf and prayed it wouldn't crush him. His next cry wasn't quite so soft. "Kakashi!"
